The Mercedes Superdome was opened in 1975, and it is and has been the home of the New Orleans Saints. The dome is owned by Tom Benson, a local business man, who owns the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans professional basketball team which hosts games just next door at the New Orleans Arena.
